Frequently aked questions – CNI Summer Camp (January 2026)

Who can attend and how to register the CNI Summer Camp?

  • Cubs: Aged 8 to 11 as of 1 January 2026
  • Scouts: Aged 11 to 14½ as of 1 January 2026
  • Leaders and adult helpers must be Police vetted by Scouts NZ.

Where and when is the camp being held?

How much does it cost and what does the fee cover?

  • Your Scout and Cub Fees are displayed here.
  • Your camp fee covers everything needed to make the camp happen—including all meals, the campsite, transport to and from activity bases, use of kayaks, craft materials, and any equipment or accessories required for base activities. It ensures all essential items are provided so campers can fully enjoy the experience.
  • Please note there is an extra fee for your "Contingent", this is decided by your Contingent Leader.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

  • Youth sleep in shared tents within the contingent area, while adults sleep separately, in line with Health & Safety policy.

What is the ratio of adults to children?

  • The requirement is 1 adult to every 6 children. All adult volunteers are Scout NZ Police-vetted and follow Scouts NZ safety protocols.
  • Every Group that sends 6 Scouts or Cubs must provide a Leader or a Police-vetted adult helper to accompany them.

What kind of activities will they be doing?

  • Expect a mix of crafts, outdoor adventure, team-building, water-based activities and scouting challenges designed to build confidence, independence and lifelong friendships.

Do I have to send my child for the whole time of their camp?

  • Yes – this is a full camp experience and a commitment to the full timeframe is required. However, if there are any special circumstances, please get in touch with your section leader. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to email our Camp Direcrtor: cnisummercamp@scouts.nz

What if my child has allergies or medical needs?

  • There is a space on the registration form to outline all medical conditions, allergies and medications. A dedicated team will be on site and also in your childs contingent to support your child and manage medications. Please make sure your childs Mahi-Tahi medical records are up-to date. 

Can parents or caregivers come too?

  • Yes! We encourage adults to volunteer., You don’t need special training, just a positive, can-do attitude. One adult is needed for every 6 Scouts / Cubs attending. It’s a great way to be involved and see the magic firsthand. However, you are required to be Scout NZ Police-vetted and follow Scouts NZ safety protocols, speak to your group leaders on how to get Scout NZ Police Vetted.

What if my child has food allergies or special dietary needs?

  • Participants with special dietary needs must supply their own food.
  • A refund for reasonable costs may be issued upon presentation of a receipt and a valid doctor’s certificate. Contact the the Camp Director: cnisummercamp@scouts.nz

Will there be updates during camp?

  • We will be posting regular updates on our Facebook Page and Latest News on our webpage for you to follow. Please follow us to stay in the loop!

Can my child bring a phone or electronic devices?

  • No – we promote a screen-free, outdoor-focused environment. Leaders will have phones in case of emergency and contact will be made if needed.

What if my child gets homesick?

  • Homesickness is natural and our experienced leaders are great at supporting young people through it. We aim to build resilience and confidence in a safe environment. You’ll be contacted if needed, but it’s usually short-lived.

What if there’s an emergency?

  • There will be a designated first aider and most leaders are trained in emergency protocols. Parents/caregivers will be contacted immediately in case of illness, injury, or other urgent matters. Emergency contacts must be up to date on your child’s registration form and Mahi-Tahi. You can also email us at cnisummercamp@scouts.nz (DO NOT contact us via Facebook please)

What does my child need to bring?

  • A full gear list will be provided ahead of camp, including clothing, bedding and Scout uniform. Please label everything!

How do I register my child?

  • Contact your Group Leader or Section Leader to get started to discuss your Scouts / Cubs attending 
  • Registration will close on 13th October 2025  – don’t miss out!
  • Register your Scout / Cub / Leader / Adult helper here.
