Viking Base Equipment Tips:

  1. Shoes are required and will get wet – you will be in and out of the water all day. These shoes don't need to be expensive or flash but should have grips on the soles. River rocks and stones can be slippery and move.
  2. The water can be very cold so you will need warm clothes with you – possibly a Wetsuit or top that keeps you warm.

Roman Base:

  1. You will require good sturdy walking Boots or Shoes worn with socks (possibly 2 pairs) – you will be walking most of the day. In most cases this Base will follow the water base and shoes from the water base may not be dry in time.
  2. A head lamp or torch is required to see your way through Caves and Tunnels Safely. Bringing spare batteries is a good idea.

Saxon Base:

  1. Sandshoes are required for the equipment we will be using and around the fires. Shoes from the other bases will be fine. Jandals and sandals are not appropriate for this base.

Expensive electronic gear may be best left at home as SUMMER CAMP can’t guarantee its security and isn’t responsible for lost or damaged devices.

If a Cub needs to contact a parent then there is a phone at the camp office that may be used or perhaps their Leader can make a phone available.

There will be washing lines available on your Contingent Site to dry towels etc, but there will be minimal washing facilities available so it is better to bring more clothes and bedding than you think you need. It can get very cold at night through this valley.

Parents should be aware that frequently even the happiest Cub in camp will become homesick after a phone call home. The youth are growing up, and being away from home for 4 days is part of the process of developing self confidence and self reliance.
